Please be patient with me as, before I introduce the restaurant to you, I have to digress and go back in time to tell you the background story... very far back, indeed.

Early one morning in the spring of 1951, in a little village in the province of Bergamo a man loaded all his most precious belongings onto a cart : his clothes for special occasions, a few pieces of worthless furniture, his wife and, most important of all, his seven children one of whom was a newly born baby.

That man was our grandfather and he was heading for Lake Orta in search of work; our mother and our cousin Sebastiano's father were travelling on that cart drawn by two oxen.

Sebastiano was born a chef; it is what he has always done ever since he was little more than a child though, in those days, there was nothing fashionable about the activity and “Masterchef” was not yet being transmitted on television.

After working hard and steadily in the kitchens of some of the most prestigious hotels in Europe, Sebastiano decided to return to the shores of our lake to fulfil his dream of opening his own restaurant: L’OSTERIA SAN MARTINO.

The premises are located in a building with courtyard dating back to the 1700s in the historical centre of the village of Crabbia. The walls in characteristic, bare, exposed stone and the ceilings in chestnut wood create a relaxed, cosy ambience.

The dishes offered are the maximum expression of Piedmont cuisine and special attention is reserved for local products in season (for example, there is no point in looking for porcini mushrooms in March!).
In our opinion the most outstanding are the homemade pasta dishes, with various fillings, personally and meticulously prepared by the chef. Here are a couple of examples: Ravioli with ricotta cheese and mint or “Plin” filled with robiola cream cheese from Roccaverano!
